The Rest

March 27, 2008

So I’ve been back in home since Sunday, but school and jet lag have kept me from updating. The rest of our trip was very nice, even if the weather was a little crazy.

Me Big Ben

Thursday was rainy, but we did get to go to Apsley House, the home of the Duke of Wellington. He gathered quite a nice collection of art during his life from different governments he helped, or helped to take over. That night we also went to go see Wicked, which was fun.
Friday started out with beautiful blue skies so we walked down the Strand a bit and to the river. We also went to Somerset House, home of the Courtauld Gallery. They were having a lovely Renoir exhibit and there was also a nice selection of impressionist pieces I had never seen before. The weather had turned that afternoon though and we got hailed on while walking home. That night we also got to go eat at Rules to celebrate my parents 33rd wedding anniversary. I had rack of lamb and sticky toffee pudding that was divine.

Portabello Road Veggies

Saturday we went out to Portabello Road and wondered around the antique stalls and street market. Part of the time it snowed big wet flakes which was exciting for a Houstonian like me, but very cold. At the end of the market we found a new store called The Cloth Shop, which had some lovely antique ribbons, fabric and blankets. The owner was also very helpful and friendly. After trekking through the crowds I took my parents to eat at My Old Dutch Pancake House, which was just as good as I had remembered from last year. The weather cleared up that afternoon, so Dad and I went on a very chilly walk down to parliament. After we lost feeling in our noses we decided we better head back to the hotel.

The Cloth Store

We left Sunday morning to snow flurries and the sound of bells ringing over the city. It was very beautiful. I’m look forward to the next time I get to go.

Around and about

March 19, 2008

Yesterday my parents and I went and did a little bit of window shopping around Bond Street. First stop was Button Queen, which had all kinds of new and vintage buttons. Then to one of my favorites, VVRouleaux. This is a shop that specializes in ribbon and trimmings. I couldn’t justify buying anything at either place, but it was fun to look around. We also stumbled on to a Cath Kidston store, were I did but a cute change purse. I had seen her stuff on some of the design blogs I sometime read, so that was an exciting find. After lunch we went to the Wallace Collection for a bit. There’s a nice range of artists and works there, as well as a stately home interior, so you can get a little of both.

Button Queen

Today mom and I went down to King’s road and did a little shopping. I showed her were I stayed last year, and we bought some socks to keep our toes warm. This afternoon we braved the cold and went to St. James park to feed the birds and see the daffodils. I’ve updated the pictures to my photo album.

Look, it’s London

Trafalgar and Big Ben

Yay for nice parents and spring break! I’m in London for the week seeing the sights and hanging out with my parents. Yesterday was rather drizzly so I didn’t get out my camera, but today was better. It’s nice and chilly here, which I think is fun because of it’s novelty. Yesterday we went to the National Gallery and then mom and I went to Oxford street so I could show her Liberty. To bad the fabric there coast so much, it’s soo pretty. Today we ventured out to Hampstead Heath and walked through Kenwood House. The house is very nice and has a great collection of portraits. When we got back from the heath, dad and I just wondered around a bit. I’ve started a photo album to document our adventures. Who knows what we’ll do next!

Has it really been that long?

March 15, 2008

I didn’t realize it had been over a month since I last posted. Let’s see, wedding plans are coming along. There’s still lots to do, but it seems manageable as long as I don’t procrastinate. These last three weeks, on and off, I’ve been sick with strep throat, a big yuk. But, hopefully it will be gone for good now with some new medicine they gave me. And last, but not least it’s Spring Break! Yay for a week off from school and the opportunity to go on a trip with my parents. I’ll post again tomorrow with pictures of what we’re up to. Till then cheers!
